Day 5 of great movie openings
Memento: Memento opens with a mid-close up of a hand and a photograph. The
audience watches the image on the photo slowly disappear showing the film go
backwards. It shows immediately that the
story is being narrated to the audience in a different manner to a normal
thriller. We see the picture fade like the main protagonists short-term memory
loss. Then we see him proceed to kill an associate after realising who he
actually is. We find out the next plot twist with the protagonist, this makes
us create empathy for him, as we understand how unaware he is.
