Day 3 of great film openings!
28 Days Later: This opening shows the isolation of one man, opening
with a mid-shot of the main protagonist naked. This shows the audience his
vulnerability in the opening. The producers also show London using many long
shots of the abandoned streets. We see mid-close ups of the protagonists face
to show the expression of his face. This creates sympathy from the audience as
we can see his confusion. Not only this but the audience finds out what has
happened to the new world at the same rate as the protagonist so we too are
unaware of what has happened. The soundtrack to the opening has the rhythm of a
heartbeat, the audience is aware that as the tempo increases the protagonist’s
adrenaline is increasing too.
