Day 6 of Great Movie Openings:
Drive: This film opens with the main protagonist helping employers to escape
from a heist. This instantly creates tension because of the situation he is
instantly in. We see a mid-close up of his face which emphasizes the pressure
he is under, yet we see him appearing to be unaffected by the pressure. After
this the main focal point is his face (his expression doesn’t change) and the
car as he avoids the police. The producer makes great use of lighting showing
the audience that whilst he is in the shadows he is safe, but in the light he
can be seen.
