Opening 2

Day 2 of great movie openings!

Goldeneye: This opening begins a shot of James Bond running away from the camera. We don’t see his face until he is inside the complex to create suspense. The producer uses a long shot to show Bond running across the dam giving a sense of scale to the place he is trying to infiltrate. When he bungee jumps from the dam, the camera tracks him falling down from a long shot which emphasises this scale to the dam. Before we see Bond’s face there is a close up of his eyes showing the audience the seriousness of his expression. The sound of the opening is predominantly diegetic. Hearing the plane coming over the dam foreshadows how Bond will escape. The scene where the antagonist confronts Bond makes great use of sound to show the audience there is a problem, the producer does this by making the room go silent.
